Installation of check-valves to prevent any back-flow of sewage Français
The French version of this letter represents the official text.

October 22, 2004

To all owners whose properties are listed on the valuation
roll and whose buildings are located in a zone serviced
by the sewer network*

Notice: Coming into force of by-law nº 694 concerning the installation of check-valves and to prevent any back-flow of sewage.

Madam, Sir,

On September 7, 2004, Town council adopted a new by-law concerning the installation of check-valves and to prevent any back-flow of sewage. This by-law came into effect following the publication of the public notice in the newspaper entitled PREMIÈRE ÉDITION on September 11, 2004. This implies several obligations on the part of property owners whose lots are connected to the sewer network. If you are among those, you must:

1. Install the necessary check-valves to prevent back-flow of sewage in your building. All check-valve models are accepted, except those of the «squeeze in» type;

2. Install and maintain in good operating condition all devices or equipment intended to reduce back-flow of sewage or the consequences of such back-flows. These devices or equipment must meet the quality standards foreseen in the Plumbing Code;

3. Install and maintain check-valves, devices and equipment at your own expense;

4. Make check-valves, devices and other installed equipments accessible at all times to Town employees or any person authorized by the Town for inspection purposes;

5. In the case of an existing building, you must abide by the new by-law before March 1st, 2005. Depending on the circumstances, you may have to replace or add a checkvalve, a device and equipment.

Fines can be imposed to those who fail to obey to this new by-law.
