SAINT-LAZARE (Quebec), June 14, 2010
The City won’t reiterate enough: it is formally forbidden to throw hazardous wastes in with the regular
garbage. Last week again, the firefighters’ intervention was necessary
because pool equipment containing chlorine was mixed in with the regular garbage.
The Town of Saint-Lazare wants to remind its residents that it is
formally forbidden to throw hazardous wastes with regular garbage; this
includes inflammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic materials, and reagents.
In May 2010, two garbage collectors were injured when acid squirted in
their faces. Two other garbage collectors encountered the same fate in
2005 and in 2009 when residents discarded left over pool chemicals in
one case and in the other a can of spray paint dissimulated in the regular garbage.
Several HHW collections are coming this September 2010. We ask you hold
on to your dangerous wastes until then or that you view the list of
local recyclers on the Town’s website at
ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca/localrecyclers.
If you do not have Internet access, contact the Town at 450-424-8000, ext 246 or 257.
We thank you for your collaboration.
