Saint-Lazare (Québec), October 5, 2009
It was on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, during a backyard composting
training session that Ville de Saint-Lazare handed out 40 backyard
composters to residents who previously registered for the session. Let’s
recall the Town was recently awarded an important $10,000 grant from the
Fonds Écomunicipalité IGA and le Jour de la Terre allowing it to offer
free domestic composters to Saint-Lazare residents. Each composter is worth $140.
Let’s recall that on April 8, 2009, the IGA merchants announced their
intent to renew the $1,000,000 Fonds Écomunicipalité IGA to fund
environmental initiatives. Managed by Jour de la Terre Québec, the fund
allowed financing more than one hundred environmental projects in all
administrative regions of Quebec, thanks to savings generated by the use
of reusable bags by consumers who serve to finance these projects. The
grant provided by the Fonds Écomunicipalité IGA and le Jour de la Terre
will have allowed the Town to distribute a total of 55 free composters.

Mr François Gariépy, Terre en Villes organisation,
and Gregory Rand, Inspection Officer (environment), Ville de Saint-Lazare,
gave a composter to Mrs Grant, resident.
