SAINT-LAZARE (Québec), August 12, 2010
Ville de Saint-Lazare is proud to announce to Grand-Pré sector residents
that the cost of their new sewer network as well as the costs associated
with the installation of this line have been accepted under the
Programme d’infrastructures Québec-Municipalités (PIQM).
Thanks to the support of Soulanges MNA and Deputy Government Whip
Lucie Charlebois and to the Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy’s
Minister Laurent Lessard, who favourably welcomed the Town’s request
following a meeting with Mayor Pierre Kary, the Town will receive a
grant representing 662/3 % of the maximum admissible expense for this
project. Currently estimated at $1,764,360, the applicable grant could
climb up to as much as $1,176,241, a financial aid which could reduce
these taxpayers’ fiscal burden by as much as $800,000.
For the owner of an average-size property estimated at 1,800 m2, this
grant could represent a $10,000 saving for a cash payment and up to
$20,000 over a 20-year payment" explained Mayor Pierre Kary.
"I am very happy to be able to provide Grand-Pré residents with such good news,
especially after our initial application wasn’t all that promising. This
news rather comes at a good time considering all the changes these
residents have been experiencing over the last months. I wish to thank
Mrs. Charlebois and Minister Lessard for their implication and generous contribution."
Let’s recall that a new sewage network is being installed for 80
residences in the Grand-Pré sector. The work, which begun in April 2010,
has just recently been completed and the remaining work will be
completed in the Spring of 2011.
Le Programme d'infrastructures Québec-Municipalités (PIQM), which
started in 2002 and was revised in 2009, provides financial assistance
to Quebec municipalities to help them improve and revitalize their
aqueduct and sewer infrastructures and helps support other economic,
urban or regional programs. The Québec Government provides grants for
these programs. It is the first time Saint-Lazare benefits from this program.
