Saint-Lazare (Québec), May 11, 2009
Ville de Saint-Lazare invites the adults to assist to Knock a play by
Jules Romains on Thursday, May 21 at the Community Centre
(1301 Rue du Bois) in French only at 7:30 p.m. by the amateur company of Marie-Claude Marleau.
First produced in 1923, Knock has placed Jules Romains within the
typically French literary tradition of taking a satirical look at modern
medicine. Knock is definitely not what we would call a good doctor. His
medical knowledge comes from reading the directions given for various
medications. If truth be told, he is no more than a great actor with a
knack for drama. In his play Knock, Jules Romains condemns the violation
of conscience and enslavement of the crowds in the scientific and
commercial age when an unscrupulous human being can bank on our fears or
take advantage of our shortcomings.
Come spend a very entertaining evening with the members of this amateur
company from the Saint-Lazare area.
