Torch Relay

Let’s all celebrate at the Town Hall
The countdown has begun! The Town of Saint-Lazare is getting ready to receive thousands of people from all over to celebrate the historic passage of the Olympic Torch on its territory and is hoping to see you amongst those celebrating this historic moment! Indeed, the Olympic Torch will be passing through Saint-Lazare on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 on the 40th day of its 106-day journey on Canadian soil, which will end on February 12th, 2010 in Vancouver for the official opening ceremony marking the beginning of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

What a great opportunity for you to surrender to the Olympic Games fever and to rally all family members and friends to attend the event! Let yourself be seduced by the irresistible message of peace, hope and brotherhood and come experience this historic event with us on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Saint-Lazare’s Town Hall (1960 Chemin Sainte-Angélique). Don’t miss the music, braseros (fires in barrels), hot coffee and chocolate, entertainment, activities and kiosks!

For the occasion, 1000 flags and 100 pairs of Olympic mittens will be distributed to our first visitors!

Arrive early!
Traffic delays, building access, parking and no parking restrictions
With such an event comes the occasional disadvantage, so it’s better to plan ahead! We would therefore like to warn you, especially parents, that a 10 to 15 minute delay is to be expected in downtown Saint-Lazare between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. while the Torch is being relayed on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009. Access to downtown schools, daycares, the Sports Complex, the Community Centre, the Library as well as the shopping centre could be delayed a few minutes in this sector. Motorists are asked to be patient. Since parking will forbidden on the Torch relay route, several designated parking areas will be proposed to visitors and will clearly be identified several days in advance. The route will be officially revealed on November 23rd, 2009 on the Town’s Website at ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca/welcome and in local newspapers. All important and last minute information concerning the relay will be distributed via the Town’s “Torch Relay” website distribution list and available on the website. Anyone interested in receiving the info may subscribe at ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca./subscription. Please note existing subscribers have already been included on the distribution list.

Don’t forget your camera! Torch bearers will pause in front of the Town hall at 1960 Chemin Sainte-Angélique.

Looking forward to celebrating with you!
