Plants harmful to our health and our local farmers! Français
Saint-Lazare (Québec), June 23, 2008

Tall grasses are harmful for several reasons! Did you know that in agriculture, we consider harmful plants to be more damaging than both destructive insects and vegetation diseases combined?* Did you know that out of every 10 people, one person will suffer from important allergies caused by the ragweed you let mature on your lawn? That costs associated with these health problems average 50 million dollars per year? Did you know that the Town receives numerous complaints concerning neighbors that let their grasses, weeds or bushes grow? That it is forbidden to let a vacant lot unattended? Municipalities must enforce the Agricultural Abuses Act?

According to the Nuisance By-law #495 you must destroy weeds before they mature (60 cm or more) to prevent their propagation.

If the Town’s inspection officer notices the presence of weeds around your house or on a vacant lot, he can demand the lot be mowed within eight (8) days of receipt of a violation notice. Failing to comply, the Town may, without further notice, get the work done at the owner’s expense.
