It was as part of the National Fire Prevention Week held
from October 8 to
October 14, 2006 that the “Firefighter for one day” activity was held
at the Saint-Lazare fire station on October 17, 2006.
For this blazing activity, 3 students from the Auclair, Evergreen and
Forest Hill Senior Schools were chosen. Alexis Martin,
Rebecca Pauzé-Bussière and Denis Dupras had the opportunity to hitch a ride from
school to the barracks on a fire truck. Once there, they had first hand
access to the premises, vehicles and equipments and were able to share a
meal with a dozen firefighters there. Not only, were they entitled to a
course on how to handle portable fire extinguishers and fire hoses, they
were also given a chance to put their newly acquired skills to the test
by extinguishing a real fire at the end of the evening. Each of them
received a barracks’ T-Shirt and cap and a participation certificate. To
crown the day, parents were invited to see their kids
in action and take pictures!
Alexis, Rebecca and Denis did not have to worry getting back
home. Firefighters drove them back with their fire truck!
Congrats to our participants!
