SAINT-LAZARE (Québec), November 5, 2010
On behalf of Mr. Laurent Lessard, Minister of Municipal Affairs,
Regions and Land Occupancy, Soulanges MNA and Deputy Government
Whip Lucie Charlebois announced today, November 5, 2010, in the
presence of Mayor Pierre Kary, two important grants to support
city infrastructures.
Besides the important $4,298,380 to be granted by Minister
Lessard as part of the Quebec tax gas funding program (TECQ),
Saint-Lazare also received $28,200 as part of the Programme de
renouvellement des conduites d’eau potable et d’eaux usées (PRECO)
following a request submitted by the city in May of 2010, for the
replacement of a 50 m waste water pipe on Rue Aberdeen.
Whereas the PRECO program allows Quebec municipalities to repair or
replace drinking water and waste water pipes, the gas tax transfer
(TECQ) allows municipalities to renew and improve their drinking and
waste water infrastructures as well as local road network.
As for the use of the $ 4,2M granted by the Minister of Municipal
Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, Mr. Laurent Lessard, Mayor
Pierre Kary insisted on reassuring residents that “the grant will
be wisely spent to improve our drinking water supply".
