Montréal, February 4th, 2010
In the lead-up to the next Winter Olympics, the Québec Federation of
Home and School Associations is hosting it's "Youth Reach for the Torch" event, which will take place on
Wednesday, February 10th at the Chateau-Vaudreuil in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The event will spotlight
sporting projects which were conceived and executed by students of QFHSA member schools, and will be
addressed to more than 200 students, aged from 11 to 14 years, and coming from all over the western
section of Montreal and the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area.
The project was conceived with the goal of stimulating young people to be active and committed citizens.
This event will be a source of inspiration to our young athletes. They will also have the chance to meet
moguls skier, Stéphanie St-Pierre, who will be delivering the keynote speech.
With the support of Heritage Canada through it's “Celebrations and Commemorations Project”, this will be
the second part of the Youth Reach for the Torch project. The initial event first took place on December
8th in Hudson, Quebec, within the framework of the Olympic Torch Relay event and lit the Olympic
dreams within the youth of the area. “By their perseverance and their determination, they want to be an
inspiration for all. It is important to convey this message of hope within this kind of initiative”, affirmed
event director, Roch Gamache.
In addition, Laïlah Cowan, the event coordinator, added that the event will be completely inter-active. We
will be able share this message of determination and hope with other young people all over Quebec with
the use of a sophisticated videoconferencing system. “In addition to all that, the students will be
participating in a series activities which will be offered in the Olympic context of fraternity! ”
concluded Mrs. Cowan.
The event is open to all, but reservations are necessary as the places are limited. To reserve a spot, or for
