Ongoing Efforts to Reduce Water Consumption

December 13, 2024

If there's one subject that arouses passions in Saint-Lazare, it's drinking water consumption. It's true that, since we depend on groundwater and don't have access to a body of water such as the Outaouais or St. Lawrence rivers, not being able to “see” our water reserves can be a cause for concern.

Like any other natural resource, water is in short supply. Our current wells, and those to come, more than meet our needs.

So why post water consumption barometers and legislate so much, you might ask? Because in Quebec, in order to protect the extremely precious resource that is drinking water, we must all do our part to avoid wasting it. The Government and many of its institutions are pulling out all the stops to encourage us to consume better, and because our environment is important to us in Saint-Lazare, the City is following suit.

In 2024, we renewed the creation of our Home2O Guide, available in digital format only, and continued our citizen information initiatives with the assistance of the Escouade verte. In addition, Ville de Saint-Lazare was awarded a grant to better inform its residents about the importance of conserving wetlands, which are invaluable to our water table. The tools resulting from this grant will be available in early 2025.

Water is a resource that must be used wisely and, above all, deserves to be protected. Our efforts in this direction have not slowed down in 2024 and will continue in 2025.
