New pedestrian crossing secured on Côte Saint-Charles

October 17, 2022

A new Kali-flash has been installed on Côte Saint-Charles at the corner of Rue de la Grande-Allée and is now operational.

This new device is in addition to the 9 devices implemented to date in key sectors of the city.

Fast-pulsing devices are complementary light signals (RRFB) to static signs used at pedestrian crossings to effectively indicate that a person has committed to crossing. They are made of 2 rectangular lights that light alternately and flash quickly to attract the attention of drivers.

Pedestrians using a pedestrian crossing have priority over other road users at all times. In this regard, since May 18, 2018, when the road safety reform came into force, pedestrians now have priority at pedestrian crossings as soon as they indicate their intention to cross the public road at that location.

Drivers and cyclists are obliged to give way to pedestrians. The City encourages road users and pedestrians to remain cautious when approaching pedestrian crossings, including:

  • Observe the traffic;
  • Ensure drivers and cyclists stop and respect the priority of the passage;
  • Make eye contact with patrons before entering the crossing;
  • Look left, right, then left again and assess the time required to cross safely.
