Bea is visiting her grandmother in New York while her father is preparing to undergo heart surgery. Having lost her mother at a young age, Bea grew up quickly and hasn't considered herself a child for quite some time. One evening, she spots a mysterious creature on her way home. She decides to follow it and soon meets Cal, a human who claims to watch over imaginary friends who have been abandoned by the now-grown children who once created them.
