Downtown Saint-Lazare (Major Hydro-Québec project)

August 1, 2022
August to November 2022

Hydro-Québec is announcing major work in the heart of Saint-Lazare to convert the TC Énergie overpressure station in Les Cèdres to electricity. This will eliminate 48,000 tonnes of GHGs per year in the MRC of Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

To do this, the station at Les Cèdres must be connected to the Vaudreuil-Soulanges station (located at 2067 Avenue Bédard) by means of underground and aerial electrical wires. These wires will be installed:

  • On the existing power line on the Route de la Cité‑des‑Jeunes,
  • On the existing power line and new underground piping on Montée Saint‑Lazare,
  • New and existing underground piping on Chemin Sainte‑Angélique,
  • Existing underground piping on Avenue Bédard to Bédard Station.

Please note that the work schedule will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday inclusive, in order to reduce the time required to work near neighbourhood schools.

Video inspection

Prior to starting the work, a visual inspection of buildings and ancillary structures in the vicinity of the work will be conducted using a video camera, either by HQ or a firm mandated by HQ. The objective is to document the state of the site before and after the work. More details and traffic plans will follow.

Repercussions

  • Hindrances are to be expected on Chemin Sainte‑Angélique and on the Montée Saint‑Lazare. Work is scheduled from August to October 2022.
  • Local traffic (including emergency vehicles) will be possible at all times, but lane closures, one-lane directions, alternating traffic and detours are to be expected.
  • Hydro-Québec will have to intervene on the vegetation near the work.
  • Short-term power outages are expected but will be planned and announced by Hydro‑Québec.

Communication

Hydro-Québec:

  • Sent communication to all affected residents and businesses in the area
  • Post geolocated posts on social media to keep people informed throughout the project

Proposed timeline

  • Please note that video camera inspections will only begin on Thursday, August 11, 2022, in areas where excavation is required.
Week of August 12, 2022: work begins starting Friday, August 12, 2022
  • In the event of adverse weather conditions or operational constraints, this work may be deferred or extended.

Please slow down around the work site to protect the lives of workers.
